END of SEMESTER 5th REFLECTION

I think writing is interesting and important to me. I really want to become an expert in writing, just such as my desire to become expert in reading, speaking, and listening, because those four, as far I know, was the basic things in language. In writing, I think, I can do two language basics at once, because I have to read too. I feel was challenged in this subject because all this time, I was thought that writing is difficult, even in Indonesian language. In order to my mind about writing, I encounter some obstacles while write. First is difficulty and confusion in choosing the object of writing. Second is hard to keep continuity of language structure and still many other obstacles that I think that all of those obstacles are comes from lack of writing theory and practice.

EMINEM or M&M

Eminem, Marshal Mathers, white rapper from USA, was popular because of his controversy. From his appearance in America’s or even World’s entertainment or music world he had made much controversy, even the conflict with his family and even with his own mother. First controversy he mad was the conflict with his wife, Kim and weave a fluctuate relationship. Conflict began when he shows graphic description of killing his wife in his music lyric titled “97 Bonnie and Clide” and “Kim”. Finally his wife and he divorce after releasing his first album in 2006. But, in 14th of June, 1999 they decided to return as wife and husband. This relation only a short relationship because in August 2000 they have trouble again in their relationship after Marshal See his wife kisses his friend. But, in the end of that year they return again until they divorce again in October 2001. For the sake of his daughter, Haillie, he tried to return again with Kim in 2006, 15th January but, in the end of the year, in 19th of December exactly the decided to spread again and they will not return again, maybe. Other conflict with his family is conflict with his own mother. Eminem led his mother to file a defamation lawsuit against him. In assembly, his mother press payment on him amounts US $10 million but, judicial decides “only” US $25 thousands. Other controversy comes from his song lyrics. Indeed, majority of his song lyrics always contains vulgar word, abusive language, and defamation. Moreover, some his song lyrics charge directly to the person he want such as parody of Michael Jackson, king of pop, in his first single of “Encore” album, “Just Lose It” and alleged Cristina Aguilera, pop princess, that she had performed oral sex on both Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst and MTV’s Carson Daly in the single “The Real Slim Shady.”

UNFORGETABLE WAR IN 20th CENTURY

During 20th century there are many wars occurred in the world, among them there are 6 wars which were form the biggest wars. First war is the war which held in the beginning of 20th century, 1st world war. This war occurred along about 3 years, from 1914 until 1917. This war occurred because of the death of Austrian-Hungarian (now Austrian) princess, Franz Ferdinand. In this war more than 40 million people dead. The second war is the 2nd world war which was occurred from September 1939 until September 1945. This war is the biggest one in number of personnel which were involved in the war, amounts 100 million personnel. Besides that, this war also suffered more than 70 million of dead victims, civil are majority, the biggest than other war which were occurred in 20th century. The third war is a war between North and South Korea which occurred from 1950 until 1953. This war not only between two Korea, but also all of their alliances, North Korea with China (communist) and South Korea with America (liberal). This war suffered 1.7 million of dead victims of military and millions of civil victims. The fourth war is Vietnam War which was held in 1965 until 1973. Civil victims being the majority number again with 1 million victims, contrasted with military victims which “only” 280 thousands. The fifth war is war between Iraq and Iran. The war which was held in Persian Gulf in 1980 until 1988 known as holy defense and Iran revolution war in Iran and Qdisiyyat Saddm in Iraq. Number of victim in this war amounts about 1 million victims. The last war is conflict between Palestine and Israel. This war has been occurred from the beginning of 20th century and still occurs until now. This war happened because Israel’s or Jewish’s desire to take over Palestine ground and make it their homeland. The war which was occurred along almost 1 century has producing various kind of reconciliation memorandum but nothing work, and also producing various small wars in the other hand such as war between Lebanon and Israel, and of course suffering many victims.

INDONESIA's WEALTH

Indonesia, even though the majority of its citizen lives under poverty, has an overflow natural resources wealth, either in the land or in the sea. Petroleum, natural gas, coal, gold, copper and other resources, either in the land or in the sea, are found in Indonesia. Petroleum in Indonesia now amounts about 3.9 million barrels and still can be explored and used until 23 years ahead. Natural gas reserve amounts in Indonesia more than petroleum reserve which its amounts about 170 quintillions cubic, which it means can be used until 50 years ahead. Indonesia is also as the second exporter of coal in the world from 2003 until now after Australia. Indonesia export about 21% in global coal trade. For gold, Indonesia has a gold mountain in Irian Jaya or Papua which was explored now by PT. Freeport. In order of that fact, Indonesia is placed 7th position of producer of gold in the world now. Beside the natural resources that I mention before, Indonesia, of course, with its size of sea, also has the big amount of resources in the sea, either fishes or mangrove forests or sea weeds or crabs or shrimps or mollusks or pearls. In the land the amount of natural resources of Indonesia also not less than the resources which was found in the sea. Even, according to Fahmi Amhar opinion, Indonesian forest’s yields amounts 2 times of Indonesia’s 2010 APBN, which means revenue up to 2000 quintillion rupiahs, if it was managed well. Besides that, even though many Indonesian people starved, Indonesia is the third rice producer of the world, according to FAO data and the second bean sprout producer in the world. Those all, and many other resources that are written yet, are the wealth of our country, Indonesia, which most of its citizens live under poverty.

TRAFFIC JAM

There are many solutions which could make Jakarta free from traffic jam which haunt traffic in Jakarta every day. Busway or Transjakarta is one of many solutions which are applied by the government to release Jakarta from traffic jam. It’s not fully succeed, if cannot be said totally failed, in Jakarta because beside Jakarta’s road is narrow, the vehicle volume in Jakarta is also overflow in every work day, so Busway special line was often encroached by other vehicle, either other public transportation or motor cycle or personal car. In order that, after seeing that fact, Jakarta’s government should apply a rule about limiting the number of personal vehicle which are used in the work day in Jakarta to support. This personal vehicle limitation rule will also need to be supported with other policy. One of them is raise the parking rate, with this rule, beside can make the vehicle owner unwilling to use their vehicles; this also can increase the government’s revenue from parking sector. The second supporting rule is raising tax rate of personal vehicle especially import commodities in order to press the growth of vehicle ownership, especially for wealth family which, majority of them, had more than one vehicle, either car or motorcycle. Moreover, the Jakarta’s government, cooperate with central government, also has to develop other transportation system to be more modern. Many of other public transportation in Jakarta are old fashioned, either vehicle physics or its payment system or in other word its service. Jakarta’s government also ought to accelerate the construction of monorail and subway, which its blueprint had been done, which every big city in the world has this transportation system, especially subway. These all traffic jam solution in Jakarta has to be applied comprehensively not partially in order to get comprehensive result too not partial result.

All along the history of Hollywood, there are 7 films which are gain gross revenue exceeding $1 billion or 9 thousands quintillion Rupiahs (1 Dollar = 9,000 Rupiahs), which means its number 10 times of Indonesia’s 2010 APBN, 1,000 quintillion Rupiahs, during its showing times. Avatar is the first film which gains the biggest profit and, until now, the only one which can eclipse $2 billion. This film directed by James Cameron and distributed by 20th Century Fox and released to the box office in December 2009. This film’s gross revenue is $2,779.6 billion. In the second place, there is a romantic film which is also directed by James Cameron, Titanic. Titanic distributed by Paramount Pictures and released in December 1997. Titanic’s gross revenue is $1,843.2 billion during its showing. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King placed the third place. This is the third sequel of The Lord of the Ring film following The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) and The Two Towers (2002) based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s novel and directed by Sir Peter Jackson. New Line Cinema distributed and released it in 2003 and during its showing times, this film gain gross revenue amount to $1,119.1 billion. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest is the next film which is gain the gross revenue surpassing $1 billion with $1,066.2 billion. Buena Vista distributed and released this film which was directed by Gore Verbinski in 2006. In 2010 there is two films which reach the gross revenue up to $1 billion they are Toy Story 3 and Alice in Wonderland and these two films distributed by same distributor, Buena Vista, and the genre of these two films is same too, computer-animated film. Toy Story 3 which directed by Lee Unkrich gained $1,063.1 and Alice in Wonderland which directed by Tim Burton gained $1,024.3 of gross revenue. The Dark Knight which distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and directed by Christopher Nolan is the last film, until now, which gained gross revenue over $1 billion. Its gross revenue is $1,001.9 during its showing times in 2008.
